Fragments – Project Update

Last spring, Upstate Scenic created custom light boxes for Alisa Weilerstein’s new project, “Fragments” for solo cello. After touring for months, on April 1, the production played Carnegie Hall (marking Upstate Scenic’s debut at the iconic venue!)

Described as “at once physically intimate and philosophically expansive,” the piece weaves together 36 of Bach’s cello suites with 27 newly commissioned works. Each work is enhanced by the responsive and ever changing light boxes. The custom boxes in a variety of sizes and proportions have scenically painted backs and sides with fogged plexiglass faces adorned with molding which hints at different architectural elements of an interior. The wireless boxes can be arranged in any configuration on stage and have a boundless spectrum of colors.

The production will continue its tour this spring and summer. More information and tickets are available here.
