Get to Know Upstate Scenic

If you ask Andy Smith how he started Upstate Scenic, he will say “I don’t know, I never stopped.”

He’s not wrong. In 2011, Andy began fabricating sets and props for various local theatrical productions part-time out of a rented barn (pictured here). Over ten years later, as the president of Upstate Scenic, he’s still fabricating sets and props, but now for clients like Viacom and Lincoln Center, full-time, with a staff of 10 behind him. The company now operates out of a warehouse with a full scenic workshop, office space, and of course, heat, but the barn stays in our logo to remind us of our roots (and to never take a heated building for granted… because it’s hard to work with frozen wood glue).

Today, Upstate Scenic is a full service scenic construction outfit dedicated to creating unique, high quality scenic work at an affordable price. We welcome the aesthetic, technical and creative problems that come to play when designing, building and fabricating for production, and we are devoted to the nuts and bolts of smart technical design for your production needs.
