TECHNICAL DIRECTOR

Upstate Scenic inc. has an immediate opening for a full time, year round Technical Director to work in a fast paced commercial scene shop. Successful candidates will have strong scenic carpentry and metal working skills, a solid knowledge of workflow, a dedicated work ethic, adaptability, must be able to interact professionally with other members of the production team and clients, and work well with everyone as a collaborative team member.

RESPONSIBILITIES
-Drafting of theatrical elements of designer drawings
-Maintaining project timelines
-Delivery Logistics
-Construction Planning
-Load-in/Load-out schedules
-File prep for CNC machining
-Offsite installation (Including Rigging, Scenery, & Practical Electrics. Possible Overnights)
-Maintain a safe and clean working environment daily
-Willing to perform other duties as assigned; assisting in other departments as needed
-Ensure all work is completed to company standards and in alignment with client expectations
-Perform a variety of duties, including but not limited to CNC operation/programming/machine maintenance, carpentry, steel/aluminum -fabrication, set electrics installation, and rigging

QUALIFICATIONS
-Forklift operation
-Thorough knowledge of Vectorworks or Auto CAD, VCarve, ProNestLT and USITT Scenic Design & Technical Production Graphic Standard
-Must have strong knowledge of and experience with standard theatrical carpentry/ construction methods and practices; Knowledge of various power tools/machinery
-The majority of the workday is spent indoors, but occasional out of shop, installations etc.
-Communicate effectively with good interpersonal skills
-Work independently as well as in a team environment
-Must possess and maintain a valid drivers license with reliable transportation
-Must be able to: perform repeated bending/squatting, stand for prolonged period of time, lift up to 75 pounds, ascend/descend ladders, be -willing to work overtime as needed

WORK SCHEDULE
Monday through Friday, 9:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m. Occasional overnight travel and weekend availability necessary.

COMPENSATION
Hourly (negotiable, rate based on experience), Full-time – year-round

SHOP FOREMAN

Upstate Scenic seeks a Shop Foreman to work in their commercial scene shop. The Foreman will oversee the flow of all projects within the shop and facilitate the smooth running of operations liaising between all departments. This includes keeping departments on schedule, anticipating material ordering, overseeing deliveries and shipping logistics. This position oversees workflow from drafting through construction, finishing and final delivery to the client. The Shop Foreman works closely with all employees on project scheduling, planning space needs and maximize materials and workflow. The Shop Foreman will report directly to the Project Manager.

RESPONSIBILITIES
-Ensure seamless communication across all departments: Drafting, Carpentry, Paint and Administrative
-Collaborate with the Head of Production to plan, coordinate, and execute project timelines and troubleshoot delays
-Oversee project punch lists keeping projects organized and on schedule for delivery; ensuring efficient workflow and task delegation
-Maintaining stock consumables, ordering based on observation and consultation with shop; Anticipating material needs based on current and upcoming projects
-Coordinate packing, transportation logistics, and delivery details with shop and clients
-Assist with deliveries, and installation coordination
-Ensure all work is completed to company standards and in alignment with client expectations

QUALIFICATIONS
-Basic knowledge of of Carpentry, Metalwork and Scenic Painting
-Forklift operation
-1–3 years of project coordination or production management experience, ideally in theatrical production, scenic fabrication, or a similar creative field
-Strong organizational skills; detail-oriented, proactive, excellent time management
-Ability to read and interpret technical drawings and construction documents
-Dynamic personality with excellent communication and interpersonal skills
-Comfortable working in a fast-paced, hands-on environment
-Familiarity with materials and techniques commonly used in scenic construction (woodworking, metalwork, paint, etc.)
-Proficiency with project management tools, spreadsheets, and Google Workspace; experience with Vectorworks or AutoCAD is a plus
-Must possess and maintain a valid drivers license with reliable transportation
