DRAFTSMAN
Reports To: Head of Production
POSITION OVERVIEW
Upstate Scenic Inc. is seeking a highly skilled and detail-oriented draftsman to collaborate on all aspects of technical drafting and production for theatrical scenic designs. This full-time role requires strong technical expertise, and a collaborative approach to ensure projects are executed safely, efficiently, and in line with the design intent.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
* Create detailed technical drafting drawings based on designs provided by Scenic Designers.
* Work well with drafting staff, ensuring consistency in standards and style.
* Review and approve all drawings before release to the shop floor for build.
* Collaborate with Head of Production and Project Managers to ensure buildability and design accuracy.
* Provide support to the production team during construction as needed.
* Consult on project bids and cost estimates.
* Ensure all projects are completed safely, efficiently, and to company quality standards.
WORK SCHEDULE
* Full-time.
* Standard schedule: Monday–Friday, 9:00 a.m.–5:00 p.m. (40 hours per week).
* Flexibility required based on production schedules and project demands.
COMPENSATION & BENEFITS
* Pay based on experience.

WORK LOCATION
* Primarily based at Upstate Scenic’s Chatham, NY facility.
* Occasional off-site work may be required at performance venues or load-in locations.
QUALIFICATIONS
* Proven experience in theatrical scenic drafting.
* Strong leadership skills.
* Proficiency in CAD and other drafting software.
* Ability to balance design integrity with build practicality.
* Excellent communication and collaboration skills.
* Commitment to safety and quality in production.
